Two Instructors

The New Testament mentions two instructors, two trainers. One is referred to as instructor law and the other is referred to as instructor grace.

While it is true that law can mean the time period in which Israel lived and now we are under grace, that is not what I am referring to here. Law can mean many things namely; civil law, a principle, a specific law, 10 commandments, or legalism. Legalism is the definition I will speak of here.

I can’t even begin to say how hard it has been to correct the issues this caused on my machine.

One has to be a Ruby scientist to know how to correct it. A bit frustrating and time consuming to say the least.

Repentance According to the Bible

The term repentance comes with all sorts of different ideas. By doing a simple search on the internet we find it summed up in words like “remorse, contrition, contriteness, penitence, sorrow, regret”.

Most would agree that this is what is meant when we use repentance/repent in our day to day use of the word. Probably the religious association is there for most. What I am tryng to look at in this note is how the Bible uses what we see translated as the word repentance in the English Bible. Why? Because word studies are good, they allow us to focus on how the word was used in Scripture, possibly how it was used during that time period it was written and also because words change their meaning over time. Perhaps the word was never intended as we understand it today.

Romans 16:26 - Obedience of Faith

I would like to take a moment to look at the phrase obedience of faith.

Before we look at what it means, and since Paul mentions this phrase at the beginning and at the end of the Epistle to the Romans, we should look at his purpose for writing:

Sanctification is the process of being set apart for God’s purpose and becoming more like Christ. It is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life, and it is empowered by the gospel.

The Gospel is about redemption: The Gospel is the means by which God justifies us.
The Gospel is the foundation of Sanctification: The Gospel is the foundation of sanctification because by the power of the Gospel we are declared righteous.
The Gospel acquired our union with Christ: The gospel reminds us that we have died to sin nature and it’s power, and that we have been given new life in Christ (Romans 6:1-14).
The Gospel is the means to Sanctify: The gospel is the means by which we have died to the law, to the flesh, to the world. The gospel reminds us that we are justified, sanctified, and glorified in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30), The power to present ourselves to the Holy Spirit to empower us to live a holy life (Galatians 5:22-26).
Gospel drives us to Sanctification: Sanctification is driven by the gospel. The grace of God seen in The gospel motivates us to live a holy life, not out of fear or obligation, but out of gratitude for Christ’s love.
The Gospel is our hope -
The Gospel is the power of love - Jesus did the unthinkable, he loved the unlovable.
The Gospel is the power of justice - no exceptions.
The Gospel is God’s means of procuring grace - gifted unmeritably to us, payed for by His Son.
